Darkness Falls Across The Land, The Midnight Hour Is Close At Hand

Should I just accept the award for least updated blog now or later? Don't answer that. Anyway, Halloween was yesterday (had to say that just in case anyone living under a rock was reading this...wait, does anyone even read this anymore? I can't blame them, with the last post being what? About 3 weeks ago!!!) and this year I was pretty low key about it, being that the majority of my friends were gone to a volleyball tournament and my shortage of spare time. But never less, here is my Halloween night recap:

Spider Ring Cupcakes I made for my sister's dance (Making a dozen cupcakes is fun. But 200 cupcakes for a bunch of preadolescences who are too busy attempting to grind on the dance floor to notice the excellent piping job? Not so much)

I was even low key with my costume! I was planning on making a costume entirely out of candy/candy wrappers (sort of like Project Runway meets Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus) but alas, no time. So instead my friend and I passed out candy and delighted every little girl under 12 by dressing up as Miley Cyrus(originally to be trashy/slutty Miley, but again, the little kids)/Hannah Montana. Everyone loved Hannah....no one noticed Miley. I can't blame them, but I was a bit disappointed because I cleverly held a frame with this picture:

with "Just Friends" written on top. It went right over their heads, but oh well.It was a fun night of blaring "Best of Both Worlds" from the house and giving out empty Wonka Nerd boxes to those who refused to wear a costume yet still demanded candy ( a beloved tradition in my house).

My absolute favorite part of last night: my pumpkin. This year I went for a Micheal Jackson's "Thriller" theme. It took quite a long time to do,but totally worth it.

The night was finished off with watching Sweeney Todd and eating all the leftover candy we had(we strategically gave out all the Tootsie Rolls, but kept the Reese's). Hope you all had an awesome holiday!

Follow Your Nose

Most "make your own beauty product" shops bring up
visions of waxy lip gloss and overpriced body glitter . The Perfumer's Apprentice does not. This cozy little perfume workshop, located in Santa Cruz, has HUNDREDS of scents, and let you test and sample till your heart's desire(not to mention the delicious complimentary tea and cookies, which I demonstrate below).

I know, I know
so attractive,right?
After you finish your masterpiece, you walk out the door with a body spray and roll on bottle of your scent. The best part? (besides the smug satisfaction of informing people that the divine aroma they are smelling, is in fact, you) They keep your scent recipe in their database, so that you can pop in and request a refill of your tailor-made scent.

Save the Cupcake, Save the World

I've never tried to hide my nerdom from people. I wore a LOTR ring around my neck for all of 6th grade and this week I chose to watch the Matrix over going out for a day on the lake (hmm, nerdy or lazy? you decide) So when I told my friends I was bringing Batman cupcakes when we go see Dark Knight at midnight tonight, they were not surprised.
Lots of good posts coming this next week!
And I PROMISE to reply to all your lovely comments tomorrow (after I recover from my Batman hangover)

Something Old, Something New

Agh, so sorry for the lack of posts, I've been pretty busy this week. But luckily I have bunches of new things to post. So on Sunday, my mom and I dragged ourselves out of bed in the early morning (aka, 9 o'clock) and drove down to "Antiques By the Bay" in Alameda.
If you're one of those people (like me) that don't have that Salvation Army Luck (my phrase for you can never find anything at a decently priced thrift store or other vintage shop) this place is perfect for you.

Unlike some "antique fairs" the stands are filled with some pretty nifty things. The vendors sell everything from vintage shoes to tennis rackets straight up from the 70's.

What I Bought:

(From Left to Right) Birdcage Pendant $2, Vintage Watch Bracelet $45, Ship In Bottle Charm $1, Typewrite Key Earrings $4, Cameo Brooch $5

Cherub Candlestick Holders $2 (set of 2)
(In suitcase I bought) Hat with Pin (that I have absolutely no use for, but bought anyway) $1, Black and Gold Clutch $1, Suspenders $1 (they totally remind me of what the Disneyland employees who run the Matterhorn wear at . Very Sound of Music-ish)

I did get a few more things, which I'm sure that y'all see in later posts. Now off to play the Sims (ohmygoodness, I am such a geek. Don't tell anyone that how I'm spending most of my summer. Shhh) Sorry about the lack of comment replies, I'm going to chat back asap!

Have You Heard of My Religion?

I love religions. Each one is completely unique and beautiful. I've been fascinated by it since about forever and I just recently started to collect religious centered jewelry. I'm always on the look out for new pieces, so let me know if you have seen any neat pieces lately!

Saraswati Pendant (this one was hard to identify, I could be wrong)

Vintage Sunday School Bracelet With Ten Commandments

Buddha Pendant

Shiva Pendant

Tomorrow I leave for some grand camping in the woods with friends. I'm not really what you'd call a "nature fanatic", but I'm excited to go boating, snack on smores and play Uno till 1 AM. Not so much about the 2 minute showers, if I'm lucky. But I will totally be quoting the Brady Bunch (from the "A Camping We Will Go episode") And yes, I have memorized those episodes (it had 2 parts! Cause everyone knows that you can't explain that kind of plot line in just one measly 1/2 hour) Be back on Friday!

Currently (Re)Watching: Arrested Development, the one where Will Arnett's puppet, Franklin, testifies at the fake trial. I swear I am in love with that man. Him and Andy Samberg are totally my top 2 in people to hang out with if stranded on desert island (yes, I actually do have a list).

ps: I set up an email account for this blog! It's goldenxcalf@live.com Feel free to email me tips, tricks, questions, comments or just to chat cupcakes (or anything else cool, of course!).

One of Those Nights

I've had a pretty stressful week (banquet, upcoming finals, job applications, etc.) so of course I was THRILLED when my aunt sent me this late birthday gift(aunt working at Ulta=best packages in the world). It was perfect because I LOVE baking (especially cupcakes) and who can resist a nice bath every now and then?)

It's basically a 2 in 1 bath fizzer. The "cake" part fizzes away in the bath, leaving the "frosting" as soap. And it has a candle on top, just for extra fun ( I made my sister sing Happy Birthday to me while I blew it out, just to make it legit).

Had the banquet last night. It went really well. I'll post more on that as soon as I get my friend to burn pictures of it.

Now stop reading this and go give your mother a hug! (like I'll be doing right...now)

ps: Really idiotic blog question...but what exactly is tagging? Is it just answering those questions or what? Don't mock me to harshly for asking, I'm kind of one of those people that have to look up any type of lingo or slang on urban dictionary. Lame, I know.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme

Sorry for the lack of posts, last week was a school trip and this week is going to be just as crazy (finishing up the planning for my school formal which I somehow am doing all by myself. But hey, that just means it'll be just what I want right?) With all that going on I'm going with a mellow post today.

A while ago I planted my very own garden and it's been growing pretty nicely. It's pretty small (just basil, oregano, cilantro and rosemary) but I didn't want to overwhelm myself with jungle of herbs. To make it I bought a wine barrel (available at most garden stores) and drilled a couple holes in it so that the water would drain through. Then I filled it with soil. I planted both seeds and seedlings.
It just didn't look right, so I jazzed it up with some gnomes (I LOVE GNOMES!...just throwing that out there) and voila, you've got a garden.
Actually looking at the pictures I've just taken/posted, my garden looks a bit on the dry side, so I better get out there and water it! My friends and I are going dress shopping on Sunday, so hopefully I'll have something good to post on Monday! I'm thinking orange or gold, something nice and summery.

Flea Market Gold

Last night I was cleaning my room (a VERY rare occurrence) and found some things I had gotten at the Alameda Flea Market. I went there twice last summer and loved it! They have the best selection of super cheap antique/vintage everything! From old doll parts (yeah, kind of creepy I'll admit) to boxes and boxes of inexpensive vintage clothing (I swear I got light headed when I saw it) they have it! Here are a few things I picked up last time I was there.
I had been stressing what to wear to my spring formal last year and then I found this and it worked out perfectly. It reminded me of Mrs. Cleaver's night out on the town so I call it my "Stepford/Desperate Housewife" dress.

My mom found this one just as we were about to leave and we both fell in love with it. Although my family isn't exactly blessed with the bar tending gene, it's nice to know that we could whip up an "Angel's Kiss" with just a quick glance to the recipe on the tray.(sorry for the glare, I just couldn't get a picture without it!)
I don't believe I haven't worn this yet! I found it under my dresser and am determined to wear it this whole weekend, just to make up for lost time.

Last time I went it was by the shipyard, but I believe it moved, so to find out more info and get directions click here. Happy hunting!

I'm Lovin' It!!!

I had my party on Sunday and it was pretty much hilarious. We all met up at my school and went to McDonalds (first off, I hate McDonalds and I'm a vegetarian, but I love these type of hilarious things). Everyone got Happy Meals and we ate an adorable cake that my sister made (she's only 13! I'm so proud *sniff sniff*). Then after everyone had their fun, we went to my dad's office building(random right? but it was actually perfect for this) and learned how to dance (like America's Next Dance Crew type) with an instructor. He was great and everyone got to try out some moves ( my friends and I go to a school with absolutely NO dancing, kind of like Footloose...but without Kevin Bacon aka god of 80's angst dancing). My mom also set up a mini "Sweet Shop" since it was my sweet sixteen. (candy cigarettes, circus peanuts, bazooka gum, unicorn lollipops, mini charleston chews and tootsie pops)It was SO much fun and everyone had such a good time. I was so happy with what my parents planned cause it fit me perfectly.
I'm going to be a bit busy this week but hopefully I'll be able to post on Friday. Hope everyone has a great week!
